This was a good shoe that was comfortable on long runs (7 to 10+ miles, in my case) and for the most part performed well. I liked the feel of the material and felt that the shoes handled races (two sprint triathlons and a 5K), training and even track running very well. There were two main drawbacks, however, neither of them severe. First is that the heel has a very large hole in the middle of it which inevitably means rocks, crabapples and other debris can actually get stuck in the bottom. It's distracting and often required me to stop and fish things out of my shoes. It's not painful, but frankly, it's a poor design. The other issue I have with these is longevity. They made it only 298 miles before they felt totally shot. And really, only lasted about 240 before they started to become noticeably uncomfortable and blister-inducing. That's a little low for the expected life of a good running shoe. (Rule of thumb is 300 to 500, and I normally do around 350 to 380.) Given the price of these shoes, it's a little disconcerting, although I would still get them again. My normal go-to shoe are the Brooks Adrenalin GTS, which I would say are comparable to these. After 6 months I cut back to once a week, and kept that routine ever since, and the shoes are still in fantastic shape. About once every 6 months I clean the wax off and give them a good rubdown with quality hand lotion. A tip an old timer leather maker once told me; " its skin, and what you use on your skin, is the best thing to use on any skin". It helps to keep the leather from cracking. Sure, it may sound like a lot of work for a pair of boots, but I'm still wearing my original pair, and they still look new, if you ignore the soles. But the sole wear is fantastic. They long outlasted my other boots with Vibram soles, and I love vibram soles. Over all, the only thing I can say negative about these boots is that they cost to much. Then again, if you average it out over the 9 years I have had them, they basically cost me around $30 with polish and lotion, and a little time invested, per year to wear them. Not a bad deal at all. Im looking at buying another pair soon to give my wonder dogs a well deserved rest. But I will still wear them as they are still like new. Also, this tool has a file with serrations on both sides, which is nice, and the tools are accessible from the outside of the handle, which is also nice. However, if I were a designer, I would have masked the edge and portions of the file that are exposed when closed such that it didn't snag the inside of your pocket.
